Elon’s King Tabbed CAA Baseball Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – After helping the Elon baseball team to a three-game sweep of Penn State, Phoenix catcher and designated hitter Chris King has been selected as the CAA Player of the Week.

King, a senior from Portsmouth, R.I., hit .538 (7-for-13) with three doubles, a home run, three runs scored and eight RBI in the three games against the Nittany Lions to open the 2015 season. He posted a 1.000 slugging percentage and 13 total bases while slugging .500. In Friday’s season-opening victory, King went 3-for-4 with a double. His five RBI in that game matched a career high.

With King’s help, Elon began a season 3-0 for the first time since 2012. The Phoenix scored 34 runs in the three games, the most for the program in an opening set since plating 42 runs in a 2005 three-game sweep of Wofford.

The Phoenix is scheduled to return to the diamond at 12 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, against South Dakota State in game one of the Elon Invitational.
