NCHSAA Performance of the Week Awards

COMMUNITY SCHOOL OF DAVIDSON, SOUTH VIEW ATHLETES EARN NCHSAA PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL—Malia Ellington of the Community School of Davidson and Philip Hall of Hope Mills South View are the winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Subway® Restaurants.

Each week one male and one female athlete in NCHSAA competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Both of this week’s winners had tremendous performances in last week’s indoor track and field state championship meets.

Ellington, a senior, was named the Most Valuable Performer in the women’s 1-A/2-A championships for the second consecutive year. One of the top distance runners in the state, she won the 1000, 1600 and 3200 and ran the anchor leg on the victorious 3200 relay team for the Community School of Davidson, which finished fourth overall in the competition. Most of her wins were by substantial margins, with her margin of victory in the 3200 over 15 seconds.

Hall led South View to the men’s 4-A indoor track and field title and earned the MVP award for the championship. He won three individual events, taking first in the 1000, 1600 and 3200 and also ran anchor on the record-setting 3200 relay for the Tigers. South View scored 49 team points, ahead of the other 47 schools who tallied points in the meet.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during a SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients are also recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
