How event is being held with the recent snow and ice:

The Bryan Park Soccer Complex is known nationwide as being one of the top soccer facilities in the country, and it is common for teams to come from all over the country to play there.

With the weather in North Carolina this week, the beautiful grass fields at Bryan Park are still covered in ice and snow. Fortunately, Greensboro United Soccer Association (GUSA) invested in a state of the art all-weather soccer complex several years ago. Located adjacent to Smith High School, the Smith Soccer Complex has 3 all-weather artificial turf fields.

With players coming from 13 states and Canada, to cancel this event would have caused a lot of players to lose money on airplane tickets, hotel deposits, and more. So, when the weather took a turn for the worse and it became evident that the natural grass fields at Bryan park would not be able to host the event, about 30 members of the staff and crews from Greensboro United Soccer and the Greensboro Parks & Recreation department converged on the Smith Soccer Complex and began a snow and ice removal project that would have made the people in Boston envious.

Early Wed. morning, the fields, sidewalks, and parking lots at the Smith Soccer Complex were a sheet of ice, show, and sleet. But by 4:00 p.m. on Wed., they were clear of anything but beautiful, green, artificial grass.

Let the games begin!!
