High Point University Women’s Track Competes At Kent Taylor Invite

• Sophomore Alyn Carr finished fourth in the long jump while posting an indoor PR of 5.10m (16-8.75)
• Juniors Emily De Lena and Lilla Lorand qualified for the 60m dash finals and finished sixth (8.00) and seventh (8.13)
• The Panthers return to action at the 2015 Big South Indoor Championships Feb. 26-27 in Winston-Salem, N.C.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The High Point University women’s track & field team put together its final preparations for the upcoming Big South Indoor Championships during competition at the Kent Taylor Invite Saturday.

HPU posted a number of top-10 finishes in Chapel Hill during the tune-up event.

The Panthers entered a trio of student-athletes in the long jump. Sophomore Alyn Carr finished fourth while posting an indoor PR of 5.10m (16-8.75) while freshman Kela Seals was sixth with a mark of 5.04m (16-6.50). Freshman Ashlynn Schiro finished seventh with a jump of 4.92m (16-1.75).

In the pole vault, junior Jill Marois finished sixth with a mark of 3.48m (11-5).

Jamie Schnuck led HPU with a seventh-place finish in the shot put. The junior posted a solid mark of 14.90m (48-10.75). Schnuck also placed eighth in the weight throw with a mark of 10.66m (34-11.75).

In the 60m hurdles, Haley Cianfarini missed qualifying for the finals by just one spot, as the freshman finished ninth in a time of 9.54 seconds. Fellow freshman CeAnna Soper finished 12th in 9.70 seconds.

Both Panthers competing in the 60m dash qualified for the finals, as junior Emily De Lena placed sixth (8.00) in the prelim while fellow junior Lilla Lorand was seventh in 8.07. De Lena ran another identical 8.00 second time in the final to finish sixth, while Lorand repeated her seventh place showing in a time of 8.13 seconds.

Sophomore Jessica Wise placed 13th in the 400m dash in a time of 1:05.20 and the Butler, Pa., native also earned a 12th-place finish in the 200m dash (28.69).

In distance action, junior Erika Peoples finished 10th in the mile run in 5:37.24 while fellow junior Sarah Bode was 12th in 5:40.20.

HPU wraps up the indoor season at the 2015 Big South Indoor Championships this Thursday and Friday (Feb. 26-27) at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
