College Men’s Tennis Final – Methodist 9, Guilford 0

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Methodist University scored a 9-0 men’s tennis victory over visiting Guilford College Saturday.

The Monarchs (2-0) raced to a 3-0 lead with wins in all three doubles’ contests. Methodist’s top tandem of R.J. Clement and Taylor Buchholz prevailed, 8-4, over the Quakers’ tandem of Turner Votipka and Erik Meiler.

Clement downed Votipka, 6-2, 6-4, in the first singles match that lasted nearly two hours. Votipka rallied from 5-2 down in the second set to within 5-4 before Clement secured the win.

Trevor Cox got the nod for Guilford at second singles and was defeated by the Monarchs’ Bucholz, 6-1, 6-1.

Coach Dave McCain’s Quakers (0-2) visit Averett University next Saturday (2/28) at 2:00 p.m.
