GC Pride MBB Cap Off Regular Season With 78-73 Victory Over William Peace

GREENSBORO, NC – Seniors Will Griffin and Raheem Martin played the final game inside Hanes Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. The Pride welcomed the Pacers of William Peace University to town and was able to hold off the Pacers for a 78-73 victory.

With the game tied at 17-17 with just under ten minutes to play in the second half, Greensboro College was able to use a ,7-2, run to jump out to a 24-19 lead. Senior Will Griffin got the run started for the Pride with his lone three ball of the day before Parris Scales and Simeon Howard capped off the run.\

Once Greensboro established the five point lead, William Peace was able to cut the advantage to three points but the Pride closed out the half on a ,7-1, run to go into the break up by nine points at 31-22. For the second run in a row, Scales contributed a basket before Brandon Pascucci found the bottom of the net with his first of six threes on the day to close out the first half scoring.

After the intermission period Greensboro was able to quickly surge out to a 53-32 lead following three straight long balls from Pascucci.

However, the Pride offense was not able to keep the hot shooting going as the Pacers then pulled to within76-73 with eleven seconds to play in the contest.

Following the Pacers basket, to pull within three points, senior Raheem Martin cashed in on two shots from the charity stripe to seal the 78-73 victory.

“Today’s win was a great way to finish out the regular season,” Pride Head Coach Bryan Galuski said following the game. “I am very glad that Raheem and Will were able to have their last game in Hanes Gym end in a victory. This win today gives us some momentum moving into the conference tournament on Thursday.”

Brandon Pascucci led all scorers in the contest with twenty points while Simeon Howard and Raheem Martin chipped in fourteen points each. Martin was able to collect a team high ten rebound to complete his first double double performance of the season.

With the win, Greensboro College finishes their regular season slate with a 1-10 overall record while going 8-6 in USA South Athletic Conference play. The Pride men will now wait to see who they will face off against in the first round of the 2015 USA South Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament.
