HPU’s Pat Farrell Earns SoCon MLAX Player of the Week Honors

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Senior Pat Farrell of the High Point University men’s lacrosse team was selected as the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Farrell and the Panthers’ defense had a record-setting day in the 13-5 win over Sacred Heart on Feb. 21. The Jamison, Pa. native caused eight turnovers, which doubled HPU’s previous single-game record of four caused turnovers.

Farrell’s performance helped the Purple & White hold the Pioneers to five goals, the fewest allowed by the Panthers in their three-year history.

Farrell is second in the SonCon and is sixth in the nation with 2.40 caused turnovers per game. His eight caused turnovers against Sacred Heart are the most of any player in the nation this season.

This is the first time the senior has earned player of the week honors. He joins sophomore Michael LeClair, who won the offensive honor on Feb. 10, as the first two Panthers to win the award in the SoCon.

The Purple & White will be back in Vert Stadium on Saturday when it hosts Robert Morris (0-3) at 11 a.m. Immediately following the men’s game, the HPU women’s lacrosse team will host UMBC at 2 p.m.
