NCHSAA Performance of the Week

JACK BRITT, PROVIDENCE GROVE ATHLETES EARN NCHSAA PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL—Richard Tolston of Fayetteville Jack Britt and Dalton Clark of Climax Providence Grove are the winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Subway® Restaurants.

Usually, one male and one female athlete in NCHSAA competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators, but with the majority of women’s basketball games postponed last week, two outstanding performances from last week’s state wrestling tournament championships are highlighted.

Tolston won an individual weight-class championship for the third consecutive year, this time taking top honors in the 4-A 126-pound classification as he led Jack Britt to its first NCHSAA wrestling tournament championship ever. He finished the wrestling campaign with an overall record of 44-1 on the season.

Clark was the winner in the 2-A classification at 152 pounds, his second consecutive state title after winning at 145 a year ago. Clark ended the season with a 57-1 mark, winning the state title with two pins and a 19-4 victory in the championship among his victories. He was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the 2-A championship.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during a SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients are also recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
