Tewaaraton Release

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Junior Dan Lomas of the High Point University men’s lacrosse team was named to the 2015 Tewaaraton Award watch list the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Thursday evening.

Lomas is the first player in the program’s history to be named to the Tewaaraton Award watch list.

The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation.

Lomas was the 2014 Atlantic Sun Offensive Player of the Year after leading the conference with 42 goals. He finished second in the league with 48 points behind his teammate Matt Thistle. He leads the Panthers with 17 goals and is third in the Southern Conference with 3.40 goals per game.

The Burlington, Ontatio native tied his own program record with six goals at St. Joseph’s on Feb. 14. Lomas is riding the nation’s third longest goal-scoring streak having scored a goal in 22 consecutive contests. He tallied a point in 31 straight games, which is good for the 11th longest active streak.

This has been a year of firsts for the HPU program as seniors Pat Farrell and Austin Geisler became the first Major League Lacrosse draftees on Jan. 31.

Players not named to the initial list have several opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. Watch lists additions, if applicable, will be announced on March 19 and April 9. On April 23, the field will be narrowed to 25 men’s and 25 women’s nominees. Nominees can be players on the watch lists or players not on the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions. Five men’s and five women’s finalists will be announced on May 7 and invited to the ceremony. The Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held in Washington, D.C., on May 28, 2015, at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian.

The Purple & White will be in action on Saturday when it hosts Robert Morris at 11 a.m. looking for the team’s second straight win.
