Final Greensboro Day School 44, Wesleyan Christian Academy 34 in Round Three TODAY:GDS-WES did it one more time, this time in Asheville

Final:(GDS takes Title)
Greensboro Day School 44
Wesleyan Christian Academy 34

Greensboro Day School Bengals are NCISAA 2015 3-A Men’s State Champions

Game Preview:
Wesleyan led by Harry Giles III, Brandon Childress, Jalen Johnson and Michael Buckland will going for their third straight NCISAA 3-A State Title…Greensboro Day led by seniors Darius Moore, Peter Agba, Trevor Mayo and Marquelle McIntyre, plus freshman Will Dillard will be trying to stop the Trojans, a junior-laden team, from claiming their third consecutive state championship….

During the regular season, Greensboro Day grabbed Game One between the PACIS powers(56-48) and that victory came in High Point and then the Trojans made the trek over to Greensboro and took Game Two, 52-50, in Four overtimes inside the DAC(Dillard Athletic Center), on Lawndale Drive…

Round Three will be the “Basketball Call to Settle it All” and it comes up on Saturday afternoon at 4pm, at the Christ School in Asheville…

This will be for the TITLE….This will settle the season series once and for all and to Winner goes all the Glory of the NCISAA 3-A State Title….

This it and WES arrived at this point after their 79-71 win today over the Christ School at Christ School and now the Trojans sport a season record of (28-4) going into Saturday afternoon’s finale with the Bengals(32-2)…Greensboro Day made it to the final stage by virtue of the Bengals’ 61-44 victory over Providence Day there on Friday night, at the home of the Greenies, Christ School…

This is it…It all comes down to this, with this being one of the biggest games in North Carolina private school history….WES goes for three-in-a-row….GDS loves to see 50’s on the scoreboard…Harry Giles with probably Trevor Mayo fronting him or taking him on the side and then Peter Agba playing help from behind….Brandon Childress can be a very big force in this game…Childress is to WES, what Diante Baldwin was to High Point Christian a few years ago…The consumate point guard and Darius Moore does the same thing for Greensboro Day…

Moore gets that penetration that you have to have and Moore had a strong game for GDS at WES, but not so much when WES came to GDS….Will Dillard and JP Moorman had big games at WES, but they did not see the same results at GDS…Agba must be big and Johnson has to get going for WES and he was not that active for the GDS at WES game…

Guys like Michael Buckland and Marquelle McIntrye become big factors in a game like this one, because they must come up with the plays that the big names won’t be able to get every time down the floor….

This game will be played on a neutral floor and that should give the edge to neither team…WES has won three straight, so you would think that would make them the favorite and it should…In the recent finals Greensboro Day has not proven that they can beat WES….

This will not be a good one, it is a good one already….This is the Game of the Year on the private school level and it will go for a three spot on Saturday afternoon in Asheville….The best to both teams, no other teams in the state could rise to this NCISAA level and you just look up and here they are again, doing it for the third time this season….

The two heavyweights:Greensboro Day and Wesleyan….Sort of like the old days with Ali and Frazier, Duke and North Carolina basketball(very much like Duke and North Carolina basketball with 2 regular season games and then you meet again in the tournament), Dallas and Washington in football, New York and Boston in baseball, LA and Boston back in the day in basketball….

GDS and WES have come up with a very strong rivalry of their own and for 2015, it is all on the line again, tomorrow night in Asheville….

  1. It’s going to be a game for the history books!! Freddy will have something in his bag of tricks for sure—– Bengals 43 Wesleyan 40—no three-peat today—–a great finish to a great day in the Blue Ridge mountains!!!

  2. Wesleyan’s guards were not good. GDS has too many good guard for Wesleyan to match up properly. WES was not able to establish the paint and they were only given open deep 3 pt shots. Anything within the paint or below the 3 pt arc was contested. GDS was deeper going 8 or 9 players but WES only had 6 rotation players that could play at this level. Qwe’s injury may have been the difference in this championship game. The WES guards look to score more than create open space for the bigs. Freddy out coached Keith tonight and the GDS guards simply wanted this game more than the WES guard.

  3. There were several mismatches that Wesleyan did not take advantage of…Jalen Johnson had a distinct size advantage and so did Buckland; both were guarded by smaller players the entire game. GDS cross-matched so Darius did not have to run after Childress all afternoon. The fact that Wesleyan went ice cold didn’t help…Good game…
