HPU Women’s Golf Competes As Individuals At Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic

• Three HPU women’s golf players competed as individuals on Monday at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic
• Junior Tan Cheeranont is in a tie for 67th with a total score of 158.
• Sophomore Danielle Fuss posted HPU’s top score on Monday with an 82.

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Three members of the High Point University women’s golf team competed as individuals in the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic on Monday in Kiawah Island, S.C. HPU withdrew from the team competition after two golfers were unable to compete.

Junior Tan Cheeranont shot an 83 in the second round and currently sits in a tie for 67th with a two-round total of 158. Freshman Cayla Smith is tied for 122 with a 36-hole score of 162 thanks to an 83 in the second round. Sophomore Danielle Fuss had the low round of the day for the Panthers with an 82 and is tied for 152nd with a two-round total of 166.

College of Charleston leads the team standings after two rounds with a total score of 588 (300-288). Troy sits in second place with a score of 598 while North Florida is in third with a score of 601. Stetson (602) and Elon (603) round out the top five.

Laura Fuenfstueck of the College of Charleston carded a 71 in the second round to move into first place in the race for the individual medal with a 36-hole score of 141 (70-71). Samford’s Bailey Gray is in second with a total score of 142 (69-73) while North Florida’s Mary Dawson (72-72) and Jacksonville’s Jessica Welch (73-71) are tied for third with matching scores of 144.

The third and the final round of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic will tee off on Tuesday, March 3. The Panthers will compete at the Oak Point Golf Club and the round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
