College Women’s Lacrosse Final: Mary Washington 17, Guilford 2

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Mary Washington’s Corinne Wiederkehr led the Eagles with six points as Guilford College fell to the Eagles, 15-2, Monday evening inside Appenzeller Field at Armfield Athletic Center. The game was the opening contest for each season with both teams’ originally scheduled openers, both against Greensboro College, were postponed due to the recent winter weather.

Demming Carlow and Eleanora Keene scored a goal a piece. Keene led the possession for the Quakers, amassing three ground balls and 11 draw controls while causing three turnovers.

Wiederkehr led all Eagles with four goals, two goals for each half, and added two assists with three ground balls. Kate Smucker and Holly Hudson each scored three goals a piece with Smucker adding an assist. Sabrina Elliott powered the Eagles possession and defense, leading the Eagles with four ground balls and causing three turnovers.

The Eagles outshot the Quakers, 25-11, and amassed the most fouls, 26-14. Mary Washington turned over the ball 13 times compared to 24 miscues for Guilford.

The Quakers return to action Wednesday, hosting Meredith College for a 6 p.m. contest inside Appenzeller Field at Armfield Athletic Center.
