HPU Women’s Golf Finishes Competing At The Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic

• Three members of the HPU women’s golf team played the final round of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic on Tuesday.
• Junior Tan Cheeranont finished in a tie for 93rd with a 54-hole score of 238 (75-83-80).
• Sophomore Danielle Fuss turned in HPU’s best round on the day with a 79 in the final round.

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Three members of the High Point University women’s golf team competed in the third and final round of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic on Tuesday in Kiawah Island, S.C. Sophomore Danielle Fuss shot a 79 in the round to lead the Panthers.

Junior Tan Cheeranont was High Point’s top finisher in the tournament, ending the three-day event in a tie for 93rd with a 54-hole score of 238 (75-83-80). Freshman Cayla Smith finished in a tie for 118th with a three-round total of 242 (79-83-80). Fuss lowered her score in each round and finished in a tie for 142nd with a total score of 245 (84-82-79).

The College of Charleston claimed the team title with a three-round combined score of 886. The Cougars finished five-strokes ahead of North Florida, which finished in second with a score of 891. Stetson (897), Chattanooga (899) and Samford (900) rounded out the top five.

Jessica Welch of Jacksonville claimed the team medal with a 54-hoile score of 213 after shooting a three-under 69 on Tuesday. Welch finished two-strokes ahead of Day-two leader Melania Bajo Geijo of Jacksonville State. Sunna Vidisdottir of Elon, Mary Dawson of North Florida and Andrea Slane of Delaware all tied for third, three-strokes back of Welch.

High Point is next scheduled to compete in the Seminole State’s Spring Break Tournament. The two-day tournament is will begin on Tuesday, March 10, and will be held at the Timacuan Country Club in Orlando, Fla.
