RADFORD, Va.
The Radford Women’s Basketball team is making some major noise this year, hoping to make a post-season run, starting with the Big South Tournament next week.

The Lady Highlanders went from a 7-win season last year in Head Coach Mike McGuire’s first season leading the team, to setting a program record for most conference wins in a season. It’s been quite the turn around for Radford in the short time under the McGuire era, as they sit in second place in the Big South with one more regular season game ahead of them.

“It’s exciting. It’s fun to be a part of. We’re a coaching staff in year two with the program and to have 14 conference wins so far with one game to go is very exciting. It’s what we want this program to be on a consistent basis, on a year-in-year-out basis,” said McGuire.

He continued, “We feel like this program has that kind of potential. I know the athletic department and Robert Lineberg believes in women’s basketball here. We want Radford to be a contender in the Big South every year.”

“I think we’re doing really well right now. We’ve won 14 conference games but we have a big tournament ahead of us and I think that’s the biggest part of the year. That’s why we all play division one basketball, is to be able to compete in the conference tournament and to get an NCAA bid,” said Kiera McIvor(Dudley High School), Radford senior guard.
