HIGH POINT, N.C. – Redshirt-senior Austin Geisler of the High Point University men’s lacrosse team has been named as one of the 20 candidates for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate lacrosse.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

In his three seasons at HPU, Geisler has been heavily involved with the High Point community. Along with his teammates, the redshirt-senior has volunteered in the Big Brothers Big Sisters, Stuff-a-Stocking and Special Olympics programs. The Non-Profit Leadership and Management major also thrives in the classroom and is a two-time Millis Scholar Athlete honoree.

“Austin Geisler is one of the most sincere, hardworking and genuine young men I have ever had the opportunity to coach,” head coach Jon Torpey said of his senior captain. “Austin is constantly striving for ways to not only better himself, but also his peers and the people associated with our program and community.”

On the field, Geisler has excelled from his goalkeeper position. The Fredericksburg, Va. native won the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Year in 2014 after finishing among the nation’s leaders in saves per game and save percentage. This season, Geisler is ninth in the nation with 13.00 saves per game while leading HPU to a 3-3 start.

The 20 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced in conjunction with the 2015 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse National Championship in May.
