Elon’s Dixon Sets Personal-Best in Pentathlon at ECACs Track and Field

BOSTON – Freshman Emily Dixon of the Elon University women’s track and field team set a new personal-best in the pentathlon as the Phoenix opened competition at the Eastern College Athletic Indoor Championships (ECAC) on Friday, March 6, inside the Track and Tennis Center at Boston University.

Dixon finished the event in fifth overall after tallying 3,439 points in the multi-events, besting her previous personal-best mark of 3,435 from earlier in the season. Her score is the second-best performance in school history.

“Emily did great today,” said Elon director of track and field Mark Elliston. “She was all heart and we are all proud of her. She did a really good job.”

Dixon started the day with a runner-up finish in the pentathlon 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.03. She then won the high jump event with a personal-best mark of 5’ 5” (1.65m) and had a top-five standing in the shot put throw with a toss of 34’ 6.25” (10.52m).

The Bath, United Kingdom, native led the pentathlon after those three events before eventually finishing in fifth after the long jump and 800-meter run.

The Phoenix is back in action tomorrow, March 7, for the second day of the ECAC indoor championships. The first events for Elon begin tomorrow at 3 p.m. with the 60-meter hurdles trials.
