College Men’s Tennis Final: Guilford 7, Randolph-Macon 2

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College men’s tennis squad swept all three doubles matches, claiming a Saturday afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory over Randolph-Macon College, 7-2.

Turner Votipka and Erik Meiler anchored the Quakers’ (2-2, 1-0 ODAC) doubles effort, earning a victory at first doubles over Ryan Byrd and Ira Usry, 8-2. Levi Bruff (Lexington, N.C/Central Davidson) and Mesa Martorell claimed third-doubles victory, 8-5, over Randolph-Macon’s (0-1, 0-1 ODAC) Baxter Carter and Matthew Coyne. Trevor Cox and Aaron Smedley battled with John Adam and Connor Hoerr into a tie-breaker at second-doubles, with the Quaker tandem claiming a 9-8 victory thanks to a 7-5 winner in the tie-breaker.

Votipka earned a strong first-singles victory over Byrd in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-3. Smedley claimed a straight-set victory at fifth singles over Carter, 6-0 and 6-1, while Mason Church rounded out the Quakers’ singles victory with a straight-sets victory over Alex Curnow, 6-1 and 6-4.

Randolph-Macon claimed victories at third and fourth singles, Usry earning a Yellow Jacket victory over Martorell, 6-2 and 6-4.

The Quakers return to the court tomorrow, hosting nationally-ranked Washington and Lee University tomorrow for a 2 p.m. ODAC match at the McMichael Centennial Class Courts.
