Elon Track and Field Finishes Strong on Final Day of ECAC Meet

BOSTON – Highlighted by a few personal and season-bests, the Elon University women’s track and field team concluded its indoor season on the final day of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships on Sunday, March 8, inside the Boston University Tennis and Track Center facility.

The Phoenix concluded the meet with 14 total points scored with its 10 athletes in its first-ever ECAC indoor meet and finished 21st overall.

Elyse Bierut set a new personal-best in the 3,000-meters with a time of 9:39.51 in the race, finishing 12th overall.

In the 60-meter hurdles, junior Sydney Griffin finished fourth overall in the finals with a season-best time of 8.72. Tereza Novotna garnered an eighth-place standing in the finals of the one-mile run with her time of 4:55.02.

Sophomore Kimberly Johansen capped off her terrific indoor campaign with a fifth-place finish in the 800-meters and her time of 2:09.80.

Throwers Bre’anna Warren and Bryanna Hames competed in the women’s shot put for the maroon and gold. Hames was the Phoenix’s top finisher in the event with a heave of 12.93-meters and 10th overall while Warren was 13th with a throw of 12.82-meters.

The Phoenix opens the outdoor portion of its schedule on Friday, March 13, at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
