The game will be played on March 21 prior to the NCAA® Division III Men’s Basketball Championship game at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va., beginning at 12:30 p.m. EST. Reese’s brand is the official candy partner of the NCAA.

McCarthy and the other finalists were chosen by a committee of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) representing the top senior student-athlete in each of the eight Division III regions whose team is no longer participating in the NCAA Tournament. The two top vote-getters will join 16 other seniors, two from each region, who were selected by a committee vote, for a total of nine student-athletes per side.

“The online fan voting through D3hoops.com has been a big hit with the passionate fans of Division III men’s basketball,” said Reggie Minton, NABC deputy executive director. “The Reese’s Division III College All-Star game has proven to be an outstanding event for coaches, student-athletes and fans over the last several years.”

The 2015 Kurt Axe Memorial Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, McCarthy recently concluded a stellar senior season. The 6-3 shooting guard averaged 16.6 points per game and ranks fifth nationally with a league-best 96 three-pointers, the second-highest total in school history. He earned First Team All-ODAC honors and stands among the ODAC’s top-five in scoring (5th), steals per game (1.78, 4th), free-throw percentage (80.7, 5th), three-point field goal percentage (37.8, 2nd) and three-pointers (1st).

McCarthy had nine games with 20 or more points this year, including a career-high 44-point effort versus Emory & Henry College that ranks eighth in Division III this season. He earned the ODAC’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Award in consecutive weeks and was also named Most Valuable Player of the Guilford Invitational Tournament in November.

A three-time All-ODAC selection, McCarthy leaves Guilford ranked 20th in school history with 1,314 career points. He stands second all-time at Guilford in career three-pointers (271) and three-point attempts (724).
