GC Women’s Golf Earns Programs First Ever Tournament Victory

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College women’s golf team picked up the programs first ever tournament victory at the Greensboro College Spring Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. The event was held at the par 72 Forest Oaks Country Club.

Pride sophomore Sophia Sedergren also recorded her first medalist honor at the event.

After shooting a field best 85 on Monday afternoon, Sedergen then capped off the event two shots better (83) to best Wisconsin-Lutheran’s Ellyn Mortell by two strokes.

Fellow sophomore Waverley-Ann Mendoza-Walthall finished the tournament in fifth place overall with a two day score of 180.

Tara Smith (6th; 182), Allison Killette (7th; 184), and Alexis Gregory (10th; 188) also finished in the top ten individually.

“I am really proud of team today in winning the programs first ever tournament,” Pride Assistant Coach Jim Cantamessa said following the final round. “All of our players have shown a lot of improvement since the fall while showing their ability to come through in the tough situations. I hope that we are able to take our performance this week into Jekyll Island this weekend.”

The Pride women’s golf team will return to action this weekend at the Women’s Jekyll Island Invitational. The three day event is set to get underway on Friday morning and run through Sunday.
