The passing of another great Greensboro athlete:Former Smith Golden Eagle Calvin Williamson has passed on

Former Ben L. Smith basketball, football ,and track star Calvin Williamson has passed on. He played for Jack Chatham’s late 60’s Eagles along with his brother Laymon and basketball Hall-of-Famer Bob McAdoo…..

Williamson went from Smith to Coahoma JC in Mississippi, and UTC-Chattanooga on a basketball scholarship.

He leaves 4 children, 6 grandchildren,1 great-grandchild, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers. Funeral service is Thursday, March 12th, 11:30 visitation, service 12 noon at United Institutional Baptist Church, 802 East Market Street.

  2. Calvin was a lot of fun! He, Mike Harris, Don Williams, Stackin’ Jack, Dave “Always Right” Highfill, “Boo” Graves, and many more passed through those doors into the Central YMCA gym and signed their guys up, so they could play for 2 hours. RIP Calvin.
