Southeast Guilford High School (SEHS) will host a naming ceremony for its baseball field this Friday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m., honoring the late Kevin Callahan, former men’s varsity baseball head coach.

SEHS will name its baseball field in Callahan’s honor prior to the Falcons’ game against Wheatmore High School. (School Address: 4530 SE School Rd, Greensboro, NC 27406)
Callahan spent 34 years at SEHS as a special education teacher and coach. He lead his players to the state Class 4-A finals in 2001 and was also recognized as the 4-A State Coach of the Year that same year. He garnered a 376-200 record over the course of his 24 seasons as head coach. Outside of SEHS, Callahan was also heavily involved with youth baseball in the SEHS and nearby Pleasant Garden communities as well as Junior Legion baseball. Callahan passed away suddenly in July 2013 of a presumed pulmonary embolism, heavily impacting the local baseball community.

In an effort to make sure his legacy lives on, Callahan’s close friend, Todd Frazier, and former player/colleague and Wheatmore’s coach, Bret Garrett, spearheaded the campaign to dedicate SEHS’ baseball field in Callahan’s honor. More than a year later and after countless community support letters were received, Frazier and Garrett’s nomination was officially accepted by the Guilford County Board of Educators.
