Elon WLAX Tops Panthers Under the Lights

?ELON, N.C – The Elon women’s lacrosse team continued its strong play with a 16-10 win over High Point tonight, March 11, in Rhodes Stadium. Led by five goals from Stephanie Asher, the Phoenix saw scores from seven different players on the night.

?Elon (5-3) outshot the Panthers, 38-22, and claimed the advantage in ground balls, 13-8, and draw controls, 17-11, while finishing 10-of-13 in clear attempts.

Asher added an assist to go with her five scores, while Nicole Sinacori and Abby Godfrey each netted three goals. Sloane Kessler finished with two goals and one assist followed by one goal each from Jacie Cooper, Molly Garrigan and Anna Vitton. Rachel Ramirez claimed the win in goal for the Phoenix with six saves on the night.

?Elon started off the first half with a commanding 3-0 lead after scores by Asher, Kessler and Garrigan by the 20:13 mark. After scores by Godfrey and Sinacori helped the Phoenix to a four-point lead, 5-1, the Panthers went on a 4-1 run to cut its deficit to one, 6-5, with 3:32 left in the half. Elon closed out the half with scores by Kessler and Asher in the final two minutes to take an 8-5 lead at the break.

?The Phoenix continued its offensive highlight in the second half going on a 5-0 scoring run before High Point answered with three goals to make it a 13-8 game with 10:16 left to play. Elon controlled the rest of the second half, with plenty of defensive plays and showcasing great offense with a goal by Vitton and two by Godfrey to cap off the win over the Panthers.

HPU (1-6) finished 9-of-11 in clear attempts and saw two goals from each Samantha Brown and Abby Berrettone, while Julia Burns recorded 12 saves on the night.

?Elon has a break until next Saturday, March 21, when the Phoenix hosts Davidson in Rhodes Stadium at 2 p.m.
