GC WLAX Pride Women Ease Past Wilmington (OH)

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College women’s lacrosse team cruised to their first victory of the 2015 season on Thursday afternoon. The Pride (1-1) welcomed the Quakers of Wilmington College (1-2) to Pride Field and came away with a 24-0 victory.

Kirstin Norris accounted for six first half goals while Devan Macheras, Natalie Ritchey, Amira Khatib, Jessica Pogue, and Ashlynn Parks accounted for seven more goals in the opening frame as the Pride took a 13-0 lead into the half.

Coming out of the intermission period, Greensboro continued to extend their margin. Norris found the net three more time in the second stanza while Nadya Fedun, Mackenzie Flemmons, and Kelsey Cenate each recorded their first goals of the season as the Pride cruised to the 24-0 victory.

“We played extremely well today,” Pride Interim Head Coach Christie Hebert said following the game. “We were able to get everyone involved in the game today and each one of them contributed in the win. Now we have to quickly turn the page and get ready for our two conference games this weekend.”

Senior Nadya Fedun passed for six assists in the contest while teammate Kelesy Cenate passed for four assists of her own. Kirstin Norris also broke the Pride women’s lacrosse single game record for goals in a contest with nine. The record has stood since the 2007 season when Christie Hebert tied the single game record against Methodist University with eight goals.

Kaleigh Hemstock picked up the win in the goal for Greensboro while stopping two Quakers shots.

With the win, the Pride women improve their overall record to 1-1 on the young season. Greensboro will return to the field this weekend when they travel to take on LaGrange College and Huntingdon College in USA South Athletic Conference play. The Pride will take on LaGrange College on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM before taking on the Hawks of Huntingdon College on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 PM.
