Frank Eaves(Page HS/Appalachian State) named to Second-Team All-Sun Belt Conference

from Appalachian State Athletics:

NEW ORLEANS – Appalachian State University men’s basketball junior Frank Eaves(Page High School) was named as a second-team all-Sun Belt Conference selection, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

Eaves led the Mountaineers and ranked fifth in the Sun Belt in scoring (16.6 ppg) while posting double-digit scoring totals in 22 of Appalachian’s 29 regular-season games. He also eclipsed the 20-point plateau 11 times this season, including a career-high 31 in a road win at Texas State on Jan. 24.

He also grabbed five or more rebounds in 11 games this season from the guard position and had three outings in which he made five or more three-point shots. Eaves made a career-best eight three-pointers in a 74-69 upset of conference champion Georgia State on Jan. 17.

On Feb. 28, Eaves poured in 28 points and went 9-of-14 from the floor in a win over UL Monroe, which was in a three-way tie at the top of the league standings at the time. He also finished in the top-100 in the NCAA rankings in free-throw attempts (71st – 176) and free-throws made (40th – 143) .

Perhaps no moment stood out more for Eaves than when he made the game-winning shot in the waning seconds of a 65-63 win over Virginia Tech on Nov. 22 to lead the Mountaineers to their first win over a high-major program since topping Arkansas in 2007.

Eaves was named as the Sun Belt Player of the Week two times, becoming the first Mountaineer to win multiple conference Player of the Week awards since 2011, when Omar Carter and Donald Sims each earned Southern Conference Player of the Week two times.

He also helped lead Appalachian State to a sixth-place finish in the Sun Belt after it was selected to finish last in the 11-team conference in the preseason coaches poll.
