GC Men’s Lacrosse Routs Alfred State, 18-9

GREENSBORO, NC – Behind five goals by sophomore Daniel Wolf, the Greensboro College men’s lacrosse team (3-4) defeated visiting Alfred State (0-3) on Monday afternoon by an 18-9 mark.

The Pride jumped on top of Pioneers early in the contest. Lamar Jelks, Blaine Wise, Gianni Gonzalez, and Daniel Wolf each found the net in the first eight minutes of play giving Greensboro a 4-0 lead.

After Alfred State cut the deficit to 4-1, Wolf found the net again before Wise tallied his second goal of the opening frame putting Greensboro on top 6-2 following the first quarter.

With Greensboro leading by the four goal margin, the Pioneers found the back of the net for a third time before the Pride broke the game open with seven unanswered goals extending their margin to 13-3 heading into the halftime break. Wolf tallied his final three goals of the game in the second period while Charles Stringfellow struck the nylon two times with Nick Sagraves and Lamar Jelks recording one goal each.

In the third segment of play, Blaine Wise (2) and Denis Radcliffe pushed the Greensboro lead to thirteen goals at 16-3 with 8:38 to play in the third quarter.

The Pioneers then tallied five goals of their own to cut the deficit to 16-8 heading into the final quarter of the game.

Alfred State then scored the first goal of the final frame with 10:15 showing on the clock before goals by Jelks and Stringfellow helped secure the, 18-9, victory.

Greensboro College dominated the shot category throughout the entire game against the Pioneers. The Pride held a, 54-26, advantage with Stringfellow leading the way with nine. Blaine Wise and Daniel Wolf also fired off eight shots.

The Pride faceoff men went 18 of 31 on the day. Gianni Gonzalez won eleven of his seventeen faceoffs while Lamar Jelks went a perfect four of four. Jacob Lassiter and Logan Goss also recorded faceoff wins.

Greensboro College also controlled the ground ball category 63-37. Gonzalez picked up a game high nine ground balls while Matt Weir, Taylor Babb, and Charles Stringfellow each picked up five.

Cody Cunningham picked up the win in goal for Greensboro stopping twelve Pioneer shots.

Teddy Alvarado led the way with four goals for Alfred State.
