HPU Men’s And Women’s Track Completes Day One At Wake Forest Open

WOMEN’S

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The High Point University women’s track & field team made its outdoor season debut Friday during day one of competition at the Wake Forest Open.

The Panthers earned a number of strong finishes on the track and in field events as the team made its first transition into the outdoor season.

Sophomore Natalia Ocasio put together one of the best finishes for HPU Friday with an 11th-place showing in the 1500m run. The Mount Laurel, N.J., native crossed the finish line in a collegiate PR of 4:41.57.

On the throws circuit, junior Jamie Schnuck placed 14th in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.39m (135-9).

In the prelims of the 100m hurdles, freshman Ashlynn Schiro made her debut with a strong 14th-place finish (15.30) while fellow freshman Haley Cianfarini was 29th in 16.10 seconds. Freshman CeAnna Soper placed 40th (17.20) while junior Sara Katherine Kirkpatrick (18.67) and sophomore Erika Bridges (20.37) were 45th and 50th, respectively.

Junior Lilla Lorand placed 22nd in the 400m dash in a collegiate best time of 58.74, while Kirkpatrick (1:01.68) finished 63rd.

Sophomore Amanda Gregory finished 35th in the 100m dash (12.97) and Kirkpatrick finished 71st (13.77). Freshman Mikaela Campbell was 77th (13.92) while Bridges (13.96) placed 79th (13.96).

In the B-Section of the 1500m run, junior Erika Peoples finished seventh (4:57.80) and fellow junior Katie Farina was 13th (4:59.91). Junior Erica Herrmann finished sixth in the B-Section of the high jump with a mark of 1.50m (4-11). Sophomore Alexis Fernandez placed 20th in the triple jump (10.76m).

MEN’S

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men’s track & field team kicked off the 2015 outdoor season with day one of competition at the Wake Forest Open Friday.

HPU put together a number of solid top-15 finishes amongst a strong field of competitors in Winston-Salem.

Highlighting the day, the Panthers earned a pair of top-5 finishes in the pole vault. Junior Austin Miller finished third with a mark of 4.80m (15-9) while freshman Todd Uckermark made his outdoor debut with a fourth-place finish (4.65m, 15-3).

Junior Dennis Crawford posted a time of 14.97 seconds to place 11th in the prelims of the 110m hurdles. Crawford missed qualifying for the event final by just .15 seconds.

In jumps action, junior Will Narramore finished 10th out of 30 participants in the triple jump with a mark of 13.66m (44-9.75).

Redshirt-senior John Yankello earned a 13th-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:07.10 while junior Nick Hula placed 49th in the 400m dash in a time of 51.22.

Junior Jim Wilson opened the outdoor season with a 27th-place finish in the shot put. The Nashville, Tenn., native posted a mark of 12.85m (42-2).

In the B-Section of the pole vault, junior Harris Coley placed fourth with a mark of 4.10m (13-5.25).

HPU wraps up competition at the Wake Forest Open Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m.
