College Baseball Finals: Washington and Lee 10 -10, Guilford 5 – 2

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Washington and Lee University’s Jonny Swenson and Ryan Weston each totaled four RBI throughout the Saturday afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader as Guilford College fell twice to Washington and Lee. The Generals took game one, 10-5, and won the nightcap, 10-2.

The Generals (5-5, 3-3 ODAC) claimed a 5-2 lead through five innings of game one when the Quakers (5-14, 2-8 ODAC) rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the Generals’ lead in half. Washington and Lee posted five runs in the final three innings to widen the margin.

The Quakers no-hit the Generals in game two for the first four innings, facing two batters above the minimum through the first five innings while holding a 2-0 lead. Washington and Lee claimed the lead in the sixth inning with a six-run rally where four of the six runs came with one out. The Generals added four more runs one inning later, three of which came with less than two out in the top of the seventh frame.

Chuck Noble led all Quaker bats with a 4-for-8 effort over the doubleheader with a game two RBI while being the lone Quaker with a multi-hit effort in game two. Tyler Petersen finished 3-for-8 with a game two double and a stolen base to complement his eighth-inning RBI in game one.

Washington and Lee’s Swenson finished 3-for-7 with two RBI in each contest. Weston batted 4-for-10 over the doubleheader with two doubles, a triple, and four RBI that all came in game two. Kyle Ruedisili also finished 4-for-10 but added a solo home run in game one with two RBI.

Chase Shuford (1-5) took the game one loss for the Quakers surrendering five runs on six hits while walking and striking out two batters in six innings. Drew Martin threw the final three innings of game one, giving up five runs on eight hits and fanning one batter. John Todd (0-5) took the game two loss, no-hitting the Generals through the first four innings. Todd threw six innings and faced one batter in the seventh while giving up seven runs on nine hits while fanning four. Justin Morrison threw the final three innings and gave up three runs on five hits and struck out three.

Tom Concklin (2-1) took the win for the Generals, giving up one run on four hits, striking out three, and walking one batter in game one. Andrew Lamb and Cory Smith combined to split the final four innings, giving up a total of four runs on eight hits, striking out two, and walking one batter. Kyle Tipping (1-1) took the game two win, giving up two runs (one un-earned) on five hits while fanning four batters. Drew Shott earned the save, throwing the final three innings and giving up just three hits while striking out three batters.

The Quakers travel to NewBridge Bank Park, home of the Single-A Greensboro Grasshoppers, Monday night to face crosstown rival Greensboro College in a 6 p.m. contest.
