College Softball Finals: Guilford 3 – 4, Randolph 1 – 5

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Guilford College’s Casey Snead collected four RBI, including a game-winning pinch-hit two-run home run in the seventh inning of game one, as the Quakers and Randolph College split a Saturday afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader. The Quakers took game 1, 3-1, while the WildCats rallied from three-runs down to win the nightcap, 5-4, in eight innings.

Game one remained tight all throughout with the score tied, 1-1, after six innings.
Erin Ogden hit a one-out single in the seventh, setting up Snead to replace Laura Hall as a pinch hitter on at-bat later, claiming the game-winning runs off a two-run home run.

The Quakers (12-6, 1-1 ODAC) claimed a 4-1 lead through four and a half innings thanks to four unanswered runs after the WildCats (7-7, 1-3 ODAC) struck in the first inning. A Hunter Glave two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth frame shrunk the Quaker advantage to one. Randolph then placed runners at the corners with two out and drove in one run to tie the game. Into extra innings, Tiffany Allen drove in the game-winning run with a RBI-single with two out to seal the win.

Snead finished 3-for-5 over the doubleheader with a double to add to the game-winning HR and four RBI. Taylor Boyd finished the doubleheader 4-for-7 with an RBI in the second contest. Laura Hall and Steffi Sides added one RBI a piece.

Randolph’s Hunter Glave drove in two runs in game two, batting 1-for-4 with two walks. Lauren Morris added an RBI on a 2-for-7 afternoon while Haleigh Wilson went 3-for-4 in game two with a double.

Maggie Shaffer (3-2) earned a complete-game four-hit victory for the Quakers in game one. Tyler Miles (Burlington, N.C./Western Alamance) gave up three runs on seven hits, striking out four batters, and walking three in four and two-thirds innings in game two. Courtney Lackey (2-1) took the game two loss giving up one run on three hits while striking out and walking one batter.

Hannah Winfree took the game one loss for the WildCats throwing a complete-game while surrendering three runs on eight hits, walking one, and striking out three. Winfree (3-4) claimed the game two win in relief, throwing the final three innings and giving up just two hits while striking out two. Lauren Morris earned the game two start and gave up three runs on five hits. Gracyn Allen-Ingle threw the middle relief innings, giving up one run on three hits, walking two, and fanning two.

The Quakers return to action Wednesday, traveling to North Carolina Wesleyan College for a 3 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
