Elon WLAX Extends Win Streak to Four Against Davidson

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s lacrosse team earned a 10-5 victory over Davidson today, March 21, in Rhodes Stadium with the Phoenix extending its winning streak to three games.

With the win, Elon improves to 6-3 on the season. The Phoenix dominated the game with 28 shots overall compared to 12 for the Wildcats. The maroon and gold also picked up 19 ground balls in the match, going 13-for-13 on clears. The team was also 2-for-5 on free-position shots.

The Phoenix saw six players find the back of the net on the day. Stephanie Asher topped the group with a hat trick while Sloane Kessler scored twice for Phoenix and also tallied an assist as well. Abby Godfrey also whipped in two goals for the Phoenix while Kelsey Dupere assisted and scored a goal. Anna Vitton netted one score in the game as did Kelli Stack for her second goal on the season. Nicole Sinacori paced the team with three assists on the afternoon while Phoenix goalkeeper Rachel Ramirez came out with a win, playing the full sixty minutes and tallying three saves.

Elon started off the contest with a goal from Godfrey within the first two minutes of the game followed by two more goals from the Phoenix. Davidson notched its first goal just over the ten-minute mark in the first half. Both teams netted one more each before Asher scored her first of the contest with 11:40 left in the first half. The Phoenix went into the half with a 4-2 lead over the Wildcats.

The second half saw both teams score in the 26th minute bringing the score to 5-3. Elon turned up its offense and played tough defense scoring four goals over the next twelve minutes with Asher tallying her final two goals. Vitton and Stack also netted a goal during that run. Davidson responded with the next two goals to bring the score to 9-5 before Godfrey found the net under the two minute mark setting the final score of 10-5.

Davidson (4-3) went 7-for-10 in clears and also had nine draw controls to Elon’s eight. Nicole Pettiglio and Emma Sissman found the net twice for Davidson while keeper Katy Boyle played the full time of the game and finished with nine saves on the day.

The Phoenix returns to action on Saturday, March 28, to host Liberty in Rhodes Stadium at 2 p.m.
