HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University baseball team dropped the final game of the weekend to Campbell by a score of 9-4 on Sunday at Williard Stadium. The Panthers won the series against the Campbell, taking two of three games.

“We gave away a tremendous opportunity today,” head coach Craig Cozart said. “As good as we were the past two games, we were equally bad in all aspects today. We weren’t competitive defensively, we didn’t make pitches and we didn’t take advantage of offensive opportunities. We have to figure out how to put together three complete games in a weekend.”

Redshirt-junior Scot Hoffman took the loss on the mound, dropping to 2-3 for the season. Hoffman pitched four innings and allowed five runs, three earned, on nine hits while striking out three.

Grant Yost earned the win for the Camels after pitching 5-1/3 innings and allowing four earned runs on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Yost improved to 3-2 on the season with the win.

The Panthers drop to 10-11 overall and 2-1 in the Big South with Sunday’s loss. Campbell improves to 19-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

High Point fell behind 2-0 in the first after the Camels scored two unearned runs. Seth LaRue drove in the first run with an RBI double and came around to score on a single by Cole Hallum.

The Panthers came back with two runs in the bottom of the second to knot the game at 2-2. Freshman Carson Jackson singled and senior Brady Williamson was hit by a pitch to put the first two runners on. After a sacrifice bunt moved the runners into scoring position, Senior Tony Fortier-Bensen had an RBI single to score the first run and freshman Hunter Lee drove in the tying run with a ground ball that was misfielded at short.

Campbell pushed a run across in the top of the third on an RBI single by Matt Parrish, but HPU answered right back with a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by senior Josh Spano to tie the game at 3-3.

The Camels jumped ahead by a 6-3 margin with three runs in the fifth. Hoffman gave up back-to-back singles to lead off the inning, forcing an HPU pitching change. Sophomore Andre Scrubb came into the contest and got a quick out, but a walk loaded the bases before RBI singles by Parrish and Austin Beard drove in all three runners to put CU ahead.

High Point got a run back in the sixth as senior Dane McDermott led off with a single and scored on a double to the gap by Lee. The RBI double by the freshman made the score 6-4.

Campbell sealed the win with a three-run home run in the ninth by Hallum to go ahead, 9-4. Cedric Mullins reached with an error and LaRue was hit by a pitch before the two-out home run by Hallum.

Lee went 3-5 at the plate with a double, two RBI and a run scored on the day. Angelis was the only other HPU hitter with multiple hits, finishing 2-5 with a double.

Hallum went 3-4 with four RBI and two runs scored for Campbell. The outfielder recorded a home run in all three games for the Camels. Parrish went 3-5 with two RBI and LaRue went 2-4 with an RBI and four runs scored
