WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Sophomore Jack Sides fired a -2 (67) and is tied for the lead after one round at the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va. on Sunday.

The Panthers are tied for 14th of 30 teams at the Kingsmill Resort-River Course after shooting a +14 (299) on the first 18 holes of the tournament.

“We are right in the middle of the pack after one round and we’re excited about our chances to compete the next couple of days as we improve our course management,” head coach Greg Flesher said. “Sides had another great day, but we need more consistency and get up-and-down more often.”

Sides had five birdies en route to his -2 and is in position to compete to win his second straight tournament. Junior McKay Tye carded a +6 (76) and is tied for 80th of 160 golfers. Redshirt-freshman A.J. Hopkins finished a shot behind Tye with a +7 (77) while senior L.J. Georgetti posted a +9 (79)

The Purple & White will be back out on the course on Monday morning for the second round of the competition. The Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate, then, will wrap up with 18 holes on Tuesday.

After this tournament, HPU will have a couple of weeks off before competing in the Liberty Spring Invitational in Amherst, Va. on April 9-10.
