Winter Wells Fargo Conference Cup Standings Announced

Wells Fargo, along with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, today announced the final standings in the Wells Fargo Conference Cup competitions for the 2014-15 winter sports season.
The Wells Fargo Cup award, sponsored by Wells Fargo and the NCHSAA, recognizes the schools that achieve the best overall interscholastic athletic performance within each of the state’s four competitive classifications.
The Wells Fargo Conference Cup is a companion to the Wells Fargo Cup and recognizes schools with the best overall interscholastic athletic performances within individual conferences. Wachovia and now Wells Fargo has sponsored the conference awards program since 1980.
In most conferences, points are awarded based on participation and standings in conference play. Each conference determines its own method of awarding points. Conferences are listed alphabetically by classification.

Class 1-A Conference Results

Coastal Plains 1-A: East Carteret is able to hang on to the lead after the winter season taking the league’s men’s basketball championship. Lejeune is a close second thanks to a second-place finish in women’s basketball. While Pamlico sits in third with a first-place finish in women’s basketball and a runner-up finish in men’s basketball. Conference Standings: East Carteret 350, Lejeune 320, Pamlico 275, Northside 230, Bear Grass 215, Southside 175, Jones 175.

Tar Roanoke 1-A: Louisburg jumps to the front of the pack after a solid winter season, with league titles in wrestling and women’s basketball along with a third place finish in men’s basketball. Southeast Halifax sits in a tie at second with Granville Central, thanks to a runner-up finish in men’s basketball and a third-place finish in women’s basketball. Granville Central took second place in wrestling. Conference Standings: Louisburg 27, Southeast Halifax 22.5, Granville Central 22.5, Weldon 14, KIPP Pride 13, Northwest Halifax 10.

Northwest 1-A: Mount Airy squeaks by Bishop McGuinness to take the top spot after the winter athletic season, thanks to first-place finishes in men’s basketball and wrestling, and a second place finish in men’s swimming. Bishop McGuinness is not far behind, finishing this winter with a top finish in men’s swimming and a runner-up finish in women’s swimming. East Surry holds third place with a league crown in women’s swimming. Conference Standings: Mount Airy 60.5, Bishop McGuinness 60, East Surry 56.5, Walkertown 46, Atkins 30, North Stokes 24.5, Winston-Salem Prep 15.5.

Yadkin Valley 1-A: With league championships in men’s swimming and basketball, along with a second-place finish in wrestling, East Montgomery takes the lead after the winter sports season. Gray Stone Day not far behind in second-place took home first in women’s basketball, women’s swimming, and men’s swimming. North Moore holds the third spot with a first place finish in men’s swimming and a second place finish in men’s basketball. Two Rivers 1-A: After the winter season first place belongs to Riverside of Martin County with top finishes in men’s and women’s basketball. Tarboro, with a solid winter season, sits in second with top finishes in wrestling and men’s and women’s swimming. South Creek still holds third heading into the spring. Conference Standings: Riverside-Martin 33, Tarboro 26.5, South Creek 21, North Edgecombe 15, Northampton 12.5, Rocky Mount Preparatory 5.

Smoky Mountain 1-A: Swain County holds first going into the spring season, while taking home a conference league title in wrestling this winter. With a sweep of the basketball titles, Hayesville edges Robbinsville for second place. Robbinsville’s top finishes were third place finishes for men’s and women’s basketball, and also wrestling. Conference Standings: Swain County 78.5, Hayesville 74, Robbinsville 73, Murphy 64.5, Rosman 59.5, Cherokee 56, Hiwassee Dam 42, Andrews 41.5, Highlands 33, Blue Ridge 29, Nantahala 21.

Carolina 1-A: Rosewood is right on the heels of Princeton after the winter sports season, with Princeton’s men’s and women’s indoor track and field taking the third spot, while Rosewood took home a share of the conference title in women’s basketball. Third place Lakewood is right there as well heading into the spring,with first place in women’s indoor track and field and a share of the women’s basketball crown with Rosewood. Conference Standings: Princeton 53, Rosewood 52, Lakewood 51, Hobbton 44, Spring Creek 40, James Kenan 31, North Duplin 17, Neuse Charter 11.

North Central Athletic 1-A: Raleigh Charter still sits at the top of the conference after the winter season with a sweep of men’s and women’s swimming. Franklin Academy is close behind in second place with a runner-up finish in women’s basketball, while third-place Voyager Academy took first this year in men’s basketball and third place in wrestling. Conference Standings: Raleigh Charter 48, Franklin Academy 47, Voyager Academy 44, Roxboro Community 37.5, Research Triangle 24, River Mill Academy 21.5, Woods Charter 21, East Wake Academy 18, Kestrel Heights 17.

Coastal 10 1-A: In a tight battle for the number one spot in the conference, Camden County edges Gates County after the winter sports season. Camden tied for first in the conference in men’s basketball with Gates, and Gates also took first in women’s basketball to put it a close second. Perquimans County still holds the third slot heading into the spring season. Southern Piedmont 1-A: Heading into the spring season, Community School of Davidson holds a strong lead in the conference after a first-place finish in women’s basketball this winter. Second place still belongs to Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, while Pine Lake Prep continues to hold the third spot with a sweep in the swimming championships this winter. Conference Standings: Community School of Davidson 157, Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy 139, Pine Lake Prep 117, Lincoln Charter 103, Highland School of Technology 93, Cherryville 75, Bessemer City 65.

Class 1-A/2-A Conference Results

Mountain Valley 1-A/2-A: With a sweep of the swimming championships, Elkin still sits at the top after the winter season. Wilkes Central is in second with a league title in women’s basketball and a solid second-place finish in wrestling, while the third spot belongs to Ashe County. Conference Standings: Elkin 70, Wilkes Central 65, Ashe County 57, East Wilkes 55, West Wilkes 51, North Wilkes 48, Starmount 43, Alleghany 37.

Four County 1-A/2-A: In a tight race after the winter season, Clinton edges Midway as the leader in the conference. This winter, Clinton took second in both men’s and women’s basketball, while Midway took the top spot in men’s indoor track and track field. Not too far behind sitting in third is Pender. Conference Standings: Clinton 55.3, Midway 55, Pender 53, Wallace-Rose Hill 51.8, Heide Trask 45, East Bladen 37.8, West Bladen 34, Union 32.5.

Western Highlands 1-A/2-A: Hendersonville separates itself from the rest of the conference as the frontrunner with a sweep in the swimming championships. Avery County jumps to the second spot, thanks to a league title in men’s basketball, while Polk County holds third place after the winter season. Conference Standings: Hendersonville 119, Avery County 112, Polk County 103.5, Charles D. Owen 102, Madison 92.5, Mountain Heritage 73, Mitchell 56.

Three Rivers 1-A/2-A: Whiteville stretches its lead in the conference after the winter season with runner-up finishes in men’s and women’s basketball. Fairmont procures the second spot heading into the spring with a league title in men’s basketball. Red Springs edges past South Columbus to round out the top three in the conference. Conference Standings: Whiteville 61.5, Fairmont 45, Red Springs 36.5, South Columbus 36, East Columbus 35, South Robeson 34, St. Pauls 33.5, West Columbus 20.5.

Class 2-A Conference Results

Western Piedmont 2-A: Forbush is the frontrunner in the conference after the winter season with top finishes in men’s and women’s swimming. Forbush is followed by a second place tie between Surry Central and North Surry. Both of those schools tied at the top this season in women’s basketball, while North Surry also had a league crown in wrestling. Conference Standings: Forbush 54, Surry Central 48.5, North Central 48.5, West Stokes 44, South Stokes 34, Carver 15.

Northeastern Coastal 2-A: Northeastern is still controlling the conference with a solid winter athletic season taking conference titles in men’s basketball and also men’s swimming. First Flight and Currituck are deadlocked for second place, with First Flight finishing first in women’s swimming and runner-up finishes in wrestling and men’s swimming. Currituck took home first place in wrestling and the second spot in women’s basketball. Conference Standings: Northeastern 66, First Flight 57, Currituck 57, Edenton Holmes 39, Hertford County 36, Pasquotank 30, Bertie 26.

Central Carolina 2-A: Sitting at the top of the conference after the winter season is Salisbury, with a sweep of the swimming championships. West Davidson still holds the second spot while third place belongs to East Davidson, which took home first place in women’s basketball. Conference Standings: Salisbury 111, West Davidson 91, East Davidson 87, Lexington 83, North Rowan 68.5, Thomasville 55.5.

Southern District 7 2-A: The race to the number one spot still belongs to Newton-Conover, improving its lead with a first-place finish in wrestling, along with runner-up finishes in both men’s and women’s swimming and in women’s basketball. East Lincoln is in second, thanks to a sweep in swimming and men’s basketball taking home the conference title. Bandys holds third with a top finish in women’s basketball. Conference Standings: Newton-Conover 71.5, East Lincoln 64.5, Bandys 50, Lincolnton 46.5, Maiden 44.5, West Caldwell 41, West Lincoln 35, Bunker Hill 30.

Rocky River 2-A: After the winter season, Central Academy edges Mount Pleasant and Parkwood to take the top spot,with runner-up finishes in both men’s and women’s swimming and a second-place tie in wrestling. Mount Pleasant and Parkwood are in a tie for second heading into the spring. Mount Pleasant won conference crowns in wrestling and men’s swimming, while Parkwood shared first-place in women’s basketball and took home the conference championship in men’s basketball. Conference Standings: Central Academy 43, Mount Pleasant 42, Parkwood 42, West Stanly 39, Forest Hills 31, Monroe 26.

Mid-State 2-A: Jordan-Matthews continues to trail behind Carrboro after the winter sports season, with Carrboro sweeping the swimming championships and taking home the league title in wrestling. Jordan-Matthews tied for first in women’s basketball and tied for second in men’s basketball. Third place is Reidsville, thanks to a first place tie in women’s basketball and runner-ups finishes in both men’s and women’s swimming. Conference Standings: Carrboro 54.5, Jordan-Matthews 41, Reidsville 38, Cummings 36, Graham 28, Bartlett Yancey 23.5.

East Central 2-A: Croatan sits at the number one spot after winter with a first place finish in women’s indoor track, and also runner-up finishes in men’s indoor track and wrestling. Dixon is still in the hunt with a league championship in wrestling and a strong second place finish in women’s indoor track. East Duplin is in third place, not far behind Dixon, taking second in both men’s and women’s basketball. Conference Standings: Croatan 102.5, Dixon 97, East Duplin 95, Southwest Onslow 83, North Brunswick 81, Northside 80.5.

PAC 6 2-A: With a strong performance this winter, Trinity squeaks by Wheatmore, thanks to second place finishes in women’s basketball, men’s swimming, wrestling, and men’s basketball. Wheatmore also had a strong winter season, just out of first place with conference crowns in wrestling and men’s swimming, and a second-place finish in women’s swimming. Randleman holds the third spot with a first-place performance in men’s basketball. Conference Standings: Trinity 46.5, Wheatmore 45, Randleman 43, Providence Grove 39.5, Eastern Randolph 34.5, High Point 16.5, T.W. Andrews 16.5.

Northern Carolina 2-A: With a solid performance this winter season, North Carolina School of Science and Math holds the top spot in the conference with first-place finishes in mens and women’s swimming. South Granville, in second place going into the spring, finished first in men’s basketball. Holding the third spot is Durham School of the Arts with runner-up finishes in both men’s and women’s swimming this winter. Conference Standings: North Carolina School of Science and Math 51, South Granville 46.5, Durham School of the Arts 44, Franklinton 42.5, Bunn 37.5, Roanoke Rapids 35.5, Southern Vance 22.5, Warren County 21.5.

Eastern Carolina 2-A: After an exciting winter sports season, North Lenoir continues to lead the field heading into the spring, while Greene Central continues to stay right on the heels of North Lenoir. Rounding out the top three in the conference is South Lenoir, edging past Kinston to hold on to third place. Conference Standings: North Lenoir 31, Greene Central 29, South Lenoir 24, Kinston 22, Ayden-Grifton 20, Goldsboro 19.

Eastern Plains 2-A: The top spot in the conference following the winter sports season belongs to North Pitt, with top finishes in men’s indoor track and field, and also women’s basketball. In a fierce fight for second place, Beddingfield edges Washington thanks to runner-up finishes in men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and men’s indoor track and field. Washington holds third with Farmville Central in a close fourth. Conference Standings: North Pitt 40, Beddingfield 31, Washington 30, Farmville Central 28.5, SouthWest Edgecombe 21, North Johnston 17.5.

Class 2-A/3-A Conference Results

Big South 2-A/3-A: Forestview stretches its lead in the conference standings with a top finish in women’s basketball, while Ashbrook sits in second with a conference title in wrestling this winter. Lake Norman Charter holds the third spot, thanks to top finishes in men’s and women’s swimming. Conference Standings: Forestview 133.5, Ashbrook 125.5, Lake Norman Charter 116.5, South Point 113.5, North Gaston 107, East Gaston 94, Stuart Cramer 86, Hunter Huss 71.

South Mountain Athletic 2-A/3-A: After a conference championship in men’s basketball, Shelby continues to lead the conference after the winter sports season. Kings Mountain sits in second taking first in women’s swimming, while Crest and East Burke tied for third and are closing in on Kings Mountain, thanks to a sweep in the basketball championships for Crest and a conference title in wrestling for East Burke. Conference Standings: Shelby 75.5, Kings Mountain 68.5, Crest 67, East Burke 67, Draughn 59.5, R-S Central 57.5, Chase 35, East Rutherford 34.5, Burns 20.5.

Western North Carolina Athletic 2-A/3-A: Pisgah jumps to the front of the pack after the winter season, finishing with first-place performances in women’s basketball and wrestling, along with a runner-up finish in men’s basketball. On the heels of Pisgah is Franklin with a second place finish this winter in women’s basketball, while West Henderson hold the third spot heading into the spring. Conference Standings: Pisgah 56, Franklin 54.5, West Henderson 54, Smoky Mountain 46.5, East Henderson 43, Brevard 38, North Henderson 35.5, Tuscola 27.5.

Class 3-A Conference Results

Southern Carolina 3-A: After the winter season, Weddington squeaks by Marvin Ridge to take sole possession of first in the conference, thanks to a first place finish in women’s basketball. Marvin Ridge finished the winter season in a close second, sweeping the swimming and diving championships. Cuthbertson sits in third place thanks to a top finish in men’s basketball. Conference standings: Weddington 61, Marvin Ridge 58, Cuthbertson 46.5, Piedmont 38, Sun Valley 29, Anson 14.5.

Mid-State 3-A: Northern Guilford jumps to a commanding lead in the conference after the winter season, sweeping the swimming championships and a first-place finish in women’s basketball. Northern Guilford also had strong finishes in wrestling and men’s basketball, where it finished second in the conference. Walter Williams holds second place, while third-place Rockingham County finished runner-up in both men’s and women’s swimming and also women’s basketball. Mid Piedmont 3-A: Ledford jumps in front of Asheboro after a strong winter season with a conference championship in men’s basketball and runner-up finishes in women’s basketball, men’s swimming, and wrestling. Asheboro claims the second spot with a tie for second in men’s basketball, while Central Davidson finishes the winter in third, taking the top spots in men’s and women’s swimming. Conference Standings: Ledford 60, Asheboro 56, Central Davidson 48, Southwestern Randolph 44.5, North Forsyth 36, Western Guilford 32, Southern Guilford 29.5.

Coastal 3-A: After the winter season, West Carteret extends its lead in the conference, with a tie for first in women’s basketball and a second-place finish in women’s swimming. Swansboro edges Jacksonville for second, winning conference titles in wrestling and women’s swimming. Jacksonville is not far behind in third, finishing the winter with men’s basketball in the runner-up spot. South Piedmont 3-A: With top finishes in men’s basketball, women’s swimming, and men’s swimming, Cox Mill takes the lead after the winter sports season. Jesse Carson is in the second slot with top finishes in wrestling and women’s basketball. Hickory Ridge finishes out the winter taking the third spot in the standings with top finishes in men’s basketball and women’s swimming. Cape Fear Valley 3-A: With a strong performance this winter, Terry Sanford holds on to the conference lead with a sweep of the basketball championships and taking the runner-up spot in wrestling. Union Pines takes sole possession of second with runner-up finishes in both men’s and women’s swimming, along with a league title in wrestling. Lee County is in third with first place finishes in men’s swimming and cheerleading. Conference Standings: Terry Sanford 74, Union Pines 69.5, Lee County 61.5, Gray’s Creek 48.5, Southern Lee 47.5, Westover 29, Douglas Byrd 17.5.

Big East 3-A: In a fierce battle for the top spot in the conference, Hunt and Fike are deadlocked at the top after the winter sports season. Hunt took first place in men’s basketball and second place in men’s swimming and women’s basketball, while Fike swept the swimming championships this winter. Rocky Mount, not far behind the leaders, is in third place with a league title in wrestling and a runner-up finish in women’s swimming. Big Eight 3-A: With a strong winter sports season, Cardinal Gibbons still procures the top spot in the conference, thanks to conference crowns in women’s swimming and men’s basketball, while also taking second in men’s swimming. Chapel Hill is in the hunt, sitting in second after first-place finishes in women’s basketball and men’s swimming, along with runner-up finishes in wrestling and women’s swimming. The third spot belongs to Orange heading into the spring season, thanks to a first place finish in wrestling and a share for second place in men’s basketball. Conference Standings: Cardinal Gibbons 66, Chapel Hill 63, Orange 47.5, Northwood 40.5, Cedar Ridge 40.5, Southern Durham 24.5, J.F. Webb 17, Northern Vance 17.

Two Rivers 2-A: With top finishes in men’s and women’s indoor track and field, mens’s and women’s swimming, wrestling and women’s basketball, Corinth Holders is sitting at the top heading into the spring season. Second place belongs to Cleveland, with top finishes in men’s and women’s basketball, while holding third place after the winter season is South Johnston. Conference Standings: Corinth Holders 143, Cleveland 135, South Johnston 111.5, Triton 110, Western Harnett 107, Smithfield-Selma 88.5.

Class 3-A/4-A Conference Results

Northwestern Athletic 3-A/4-A: Hickory finishes the winter sports season in front with first place finishes in men’s basketball and women’s swimming. Watauga on the heels of Hickory sits in second with a second place tie in men’s basketball and a third-place finish in men’s swimming. South Caldwell finished third, thanks to a second place finish in wrestling and a third place finish in women’s basketball. Conference Standings: Hickory 130, Watauga 127.5, South Caldwell 111.5, St. Stephens 108.5, Freedom 108.5, Fred T. Foard 102.5, Hibriten 93.5, Patton 86.

Mideastern 3-A/4-A: Hoggard sits in first, showing its dominance again this winter season with a sweep in the swimming championships and also sweeping the basketball championships. New Hanover takes the second spot with runner-up finishes in men’s swimming and women’s basketball. Laney holds third place with a runner-up finish in wrestling. Conference Standings: Hoggard 72.5, New Hanover 56, Laney 53.5, Ashley 44, Topsail 43, South Brunswick 36, West Brunswick 31.

Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A: With a fight for first place, D.H. Conley takes the number one spot in the conference after the winter season with runner-up finishes in men’s and women’s swimming, and also a second-place tie in women’s basketball. New Bern took home second place in wrestling. New Bern is followed by J.H. Rose, in third with a sweep of the swimming championships this winter. Conference Standings: D.H. North Piedmont 3-A/4-A: Lake Norman extends itscommanding lead after the winter sports season with top finishes in both men’s and women’s swimming, along with the men’s basketball program. Mooresville is in the second spot with top finishes in wrestling and women’s swimming, while third place is a tie between Alexander Central and South Iredell. Mountain Athletic 3-A/4-A: After the winter sports season, T.C. Roberson is still the frontrunner in the conference with a league crown in men’s swimming and second place finish in women’s swimming. North Buncombe tied for first in men’s basketball and finished second in wrestling this winter procuring the second spot in conference heading into the spring season. A.C. Reynolds sits in third place after the winter season. Conference Standings: T.C. Roberson 120, North Buncombe 115, A.C. Reynolds 108, Asheville 101, Enka 76, Clyde Erwin 72, McDowell 70.

Class 4-A Conference Results

Mid-South 4-A: With an impressive winter season, Jack Britt pushes its lead with first place finishes in wrestling and women’s swimming. Jack Britt also finished as runner-up in women’s basketball and men’s swimming. Cape Fear is in second after the winter with a league title in men’s swimming and second-place finishes in wrestling and women’s swimming. South View is in third, with a first-place performance in women’s basketball. Conference Standings: Jack Britt 74, Cape Fear 57.5, South View 51, Pine Forest 45.5, Overhills 37, Seventy-First 34, E.E. Smith 28.

PAC 6 4-A: East Chapel Hill edges Jordan for the top spot after the winter sports season, thanks to a sweep in the swimming championships and a third-place finish in men’s basketball. Jordan not far from the lead took home first in men’s basketball and finished runner-up in men’s and women’s swimming. Riverside holds third after first-place finishes in women’s basketball and wrestling. Conference Standings: East Chapel Hill 56.5, Jordan 55.5, Riverside 49, Northern Durham 32, Hillside 22, Person 21.

Piedmont Triad 4-A: Earning first place in women’s basketball along with wrestling and taking second place in both men’s and women’s swimming and also in men’s basketball allows Northwest Guilford to extend its lead after the winter. Ragsdale edges Southwest Guilford for second with a conference crown in wrestling, while Southwest Guilford in third took home championships in men’s basketball and men’s swimming. Southwest Guilford also had help from the women’s basketball program finishing second. Conference Standings: Northwest Guilford 62.5, Ragsdale 47, Southwest Guilford 46.5, East Forsyth 37, High Point Central 31.5, Glenn 27.5.

Central Piedmont 4-A: With top finishes in men’s swimming, men’s basketball, and women’s swimming, Reagan continues to be the frontrunner after the winter season. West Forsyth jumps to the second spot thanks to a top finish in men’s basketball, while Mount Tabor holds third going into the spring season. Conference Standings: Reagan 522.5, West Forsyth 472.5, Mount Tabor 467.5, R.J. Reynolds 422.5, Davie 397.5, North Davidson 395, Parkland 262.5.

All-Metro 4-A: Page continues to be the frontrunner of the conference following the winter sports season after winning conference titles in men’s basketball and men’s swimming, and also taking second place in women’s swimming. Grimsley holds the second spot with a top finish in women’s swimming. Third place belongs to Southeast Guilford, with a first-place finish in wrestling and a runner-up finish in women’s basketball. Greater Neuse River 4-A: Clayton stretches its first place lead after the winter season with top finishes in wrestling and gymnastics. Southwest Wake 4-A: Extending its conference lead after the winter season is Green Hope, thanks to top performances in gymnastics, men’s swimming, and women’s swimming. Edging Apex for second is Panther Creek, with second-place finishes in cheerleading and gymnastics. Third place Apex finished the winter athletic season with a top finish in men’s basketball and a runner-up finish in women’s basketball. Charlotte Catholic sits in second with a league title in women’s swimming, while Providence holds third place with runner-up finishes in wrestling and women’s swimming.
