ROCK HILL – The Newberry College Wolves men’s basketball team has earned two members on the All-South Atlantic Conference regular season teams as voted on by the leagues coaches.

Demarkus Smith (Johnston, S.C.) has been named to the first team while James Stepp (Greensboro, N.C.) earned a tie for a spot on the all-freshman team.

Stepp(Ragsdale High School) made himself known early on during the campaign as a precision 3-point shooter for the Scarlet and Gray. During the opening four games of the season, Stepp shot 4-of-18 from beyond the arc. The fifth game of the season Stepp poured in 5-of-8 from long range during Newberry’s home-opener versus the Brevard Tornados, a 101-72 victory. He continued against the Catawba Indians as he shot 6-of-9 from 3-point range as the Wolves earned a hard-fought victory 108-101.

On the year Stepp has shot 37.7% (61-of-162) from 3-point range, while shooting 37.9% (66-174) overall from the floor. He averages 2.4 rebounds on the campaign and 65.4% (17-26) from the charity stripe.
