Late Rally Falls Short As GC WLAX Pride Fall To Randolph-Macon, 18-14

GREENSBORO, NC – The Greensboro College women’s lacrosse team (7-3) returned home for a non-conference game on Thursday afternoon. The Pride welcomed the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon (6-2) to Pride Field, and fell by a final score of 18-14 despite a late charge.

The Yellow Jackets tallied the first three goals of the game before Ashlynn Parks got Greensboro on the board with a free position goal making the score 3-1.

Once Greensboro pulled to within two goals Randolph-Macon then extended their margin back to three goals before Alexa Besch took a feed from Kirstin Norris to pull back within two goals at 4-2 with 19:56 to play in the opening half.

Over the course of the next three minutes of play, the Yellow Jackets scored three straight goals before Parks made the score 7-3 with her second goal of the day.

Following two more goals by Macon, Kirstin Norris tallied three goals before the end of the half but the Yellow Jackets took an 11-6 lead into the break.

Just fifteen seconds into the second half, Randolph-Macon struck again but Norris beat the Yellow Jackets keeper twenty seconds later making the score 12-7.

Later in the second period with the Pride trailing 15-8, senior Nadya Fedun found the back of the net for the second of her two goals on the day to bring the Pride to within six goals at 15-9.

Macon had extended their lead back out to seven goals when Kelsey Cenate took a pass from Fedun to bring the margin back down to six at 16-10.

After Norris had cut the deficit to 17-11 following another Norris goal, Greensboro was able to outscore the Yellow Jackets 3-1 over the next three minutes of play but could not gain any more ground falling 18-14. During the 3-1 run for the Pride, Norris, Ashlynn Parks, and Natalie Ritchey each chipped in one goal.

Kirstin Norris finished the day with a team leading six goals while Ashlynn Parks also recorded a hat trick with three goals.

Kaleigh Hemstock took the loss between the pipes for the Pride despite making seven saves on the day.

The Pride will return to action on Tuesday afternoon against USA South foe Meredith College. The game is set to get underway at 4:00 PM.
