College Men’s Track and Field Results – Guilford’s Goncarovs Claims 5,000 Meter Victory at Jopson Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Andris Goncarovs claimed Guilford College’s first victory of the two-day Jopson Invitational Friday night at Bridgewater College. The meet features Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) schools along with other Division III schools.

Goncarovs claimed victory in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:46.72, defeating three different ODAC runners in the race. The senior won the race by 5.16 seconds.

Alex Martin (Pfafftown, N.C./Reagan) also claimed a strong finish in the first day of the meet with a third place finish in the Long Jump thanks to a mark of 6.29 meters. The mark was .01 meters away from second place, which would have forced a tie-breaker that the freshman would have claimed. The mark was also the fourth-best in program history.

The bulk of the Quakers, including the women’s squad, join Goncarovs and Martin tomorrow in the second day of the Jopson Invitational.
