RALEIGH, N.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team began competition on Friday, March 27, at the prestigious Raleigh Relays at the Paul Derr Track at NC State.

“So far so as I think we did really well today,” said Elon director of track and field and cross country Mark Elliston. “We had some great performances despite the miserable weather here. It’s rainy, cold and wet and definitely not the best weather to compete in.”

Tereza Novotna broke her own school-record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after running a new personal-best of 10:27.14, finishing fourth overall. Sophomore Kimberly Johansen also set a new personal-record in the 1,500-meters as she clocked in a time of 4:27.32 – now the second-fastest time on the program’s outdoor performance list.

Junior Sydney Griffin qualified for the finals of the 100-meter hurdles after running a time of 14.19. Freshman Bryanna Hames was third overall in the discus throw with a toss of 141’ 10” (43.24m) while Megan Kirschling garnered a fourth-place standing in the high jump with a cleared height of 5’ 5” (1.65m).

Sophomore Bre’anna Warren was seventh overall in the shot put after throwing a heave of 41’ 3.75” (12.59m). Jennifer Pash was Elon’s top finisher in the 400-meters after she clocked in a time of 58.47.

Elon will close out the second and final day tomorrow, March 28, with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and running events starting at 11 a.m.
