College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 20, Sweet Briar 7

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Four Quakers scored four goals apiece in Guilford College’s 20-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women’s lacrosse win at Sweet Briar College Saturday afternoon. Guilford’s 20 goals marked a season high.

After Sweet Briar’s Monica Ewansik opened the game’s scoring Guilford (5-4, 3-2 ODAC) reeled off eight straight goals, two apiece by rookies Carter MacLeod, Taylor Campellone and Kelly Martin. Campellone scored her third goal of the game 5:40 before halftime, which gave the Quakers a 9-2 edge at intermission.

The Vixens’ Genny Kelley netted the second-half’s opening goal and the teams traded tallies for the first 10 minutes of the period. She scored the second of her team-high three goals with 21:13 to play, which trimmed Guilford’s lead to 11-6. The Quakers answered by scoring the next seven goals and closing the match on a 9-1 run. Marina Bailey netted three of her four scores during the 7-0 outburst.

Campellone, MacLeod and Eleanora Keene shared game-high scoring honors with five points apiece on four goals and an assist. Keene added six ground balls, nine draw controls and caused five turnovers, each game highs. Martin finished with a personal-best three goals. Sophomore goalie Sammi Milbourn made a season-high 12 saves and picked up two ground balls.

Kelley’s three goals paced Sweet Briar’s offense. Allison McLamb added two scores and also led the hosts with seven draws and five ground balls. Emily Williams went the distance in goal and made 10 saves.
