Elon Track and Field Phoenix Closes Out Final Day at Raleigh Relays

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s track and field team concluded competition on the final day of the Raleigh Relays on Saturday evening, March 28, at the Paul Derr Track at NC State.

“We managed some good second day results,” said Elon director of track and field and cross country Mark Elliston. “We did well, but when we get really good days of training I believe that we are on track to do some really good things.”

Sophomore Kimberly Johansen set a new school-record in the 800-meters with a time of 2:11.19 finishing as the runner-up. Johansen now holds the program’s indoor and outdoor records in the 800-meters.

Sydney Griffin was fourth overall in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 13.87. Jen Esposito was seventh overall in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.87 while freshman Lydia Laws was 14th in her time of 1:04.41 in the event. Griffin was also Elon’s top runner in the 200-meters with a time of 25.64.

Sophomore Carrie Abraham had a leap of 36’ 7” (11.15m) in the triple jump while team’s 4×100-meter relay team ran a time of 48.87. The Phoenix’s 4×400-meter relay team clocked a time of 3:58.32.

The Phoenix will next compete next weekend, March 3-4, at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational in Lynchburg, Va.
