College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Shares Wynlakes Lead After 18 Holes

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Guilford College and LaGrange College both shot 293 and share first place after Monday’s opening round of the Wynlakes Intercollegiate. The tournament features 10 NCAA Division III teams playing the Championship Course at the Wynlakes Golf and Country Club.

The Quakers have three golfers among the field’s top-four, including rookie Harrison Frye (High Point, N.C./High Point Central), who shot a three-under-par 69 and holds a two-stroke edge over the rest of the 60-man field. California Lutheran University’s Nick Dallas and LaGrange’s Cory Howard both shot 71 and share second place individually. Guilford’s Tanner Gross (Archdale, N.C./Homeschooled) and Ty Palmer (Kernersville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) share fourth place along with Rhodes College’s Alex Davis after the trio fired 72 Monday.

Rhodes sits two shots behind the leaders in third place at 295. California Lutheran (300) and tournament host Huntingdon College (304) round out the top-five teams.

Guilford was initially awarded first place until the Quakers’ Andrew Thompson was disqualified for the round after taking an incorrect drop. The ruling resulted in Travis Tolbert’s 80 counting as Guilford’s fourth score of the round in place of Thompson’s 76, a four-stroke difference.

Playing as an individual, Guilford’s Henry Smith shot 81 and sits in 34th place.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers and the remaining teams wrap up the 36-hole tournament Tuesday.
