Votipka, a senior captain, posted a 3-0 record at first singles and teamed with Erik Meiler for a 3-0 first-doubles mark in Guilford’s 2-1 week. He started the week with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Hampden-Sydney College’s Trent Singleton and teamed with Meiler for an 8-1 doubles triumph over Patrick Bryant and David Anderson. Votipka did not lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lynchburg College’s Josh Johnson March 28. He and Meiler also tossed a doubles shutout with an 8-0 whitewashing of Johnson and Grady Allin. Guilford defeated Hampden-Sydney and Lynchburg by matching scores of 9-0.

Votipka saved his best for last however, pulling out two narrow wins in the Quakers’ 5-4 home loss to league-rival Virginia Wesleyan College, ranked 19th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Division III Atlantic South Rankings. He and Meiler started the day with an 8-6 doubles win over the Marlins Graham Wilson and Kenneth Dowling. Votipka notched his fourth 6-0 set win of the week, but Wilson rallied for a 6-3 win in the second set. The two slugged it out for nearly three hours Sunday afternoon before Votipka broke Wilson’s serve in the 12th set for a 7-5 victory.

Votipka shares the team lead with a 10-7 singles’ record and is 7-1 in ODAC matches. He has an 8-6 overall double mark, 7-3 with Meiler at first singles. The pair is 6-2 in conference matches.

Votipka has helped coach Dave McCain’s Quakers to third place in the ODAC standings with a 6-2 record. Ranked 14th in the latest ITA Atlantic South Poll, Guilford has a 7-4 overall mark and had won five straight before Sunday’s setback to Virginia Wesleyan.
