Elon’s Kara Shutt (Southeast HS) Garners CAA Player of the Week Accolade

RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman Kara Shutt (Southeast Guilford) of the Elon University softball team was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday morning, March 30.

This is the first career CAA weekly accolade for Shutt after the Greensboro, N.C., native helped the maroon and gold to a 4-1 record last week. Shutt batted .500 (7-for-14) in those contests while scoring a team-high eight runs with seven RBI, a double and a home run. She also drew a team-best seven walks and was 2-for-2 in stolen bases.

Shutt had multi-hit performances in three of the Phoenix’s five games last week and hit .375 overall during Elon’s sweep at Drexel this past weekend, March 28-29, as the maroon and gold clinched its first-ever CAA series victory.

Shutt becomes the fourth Phoenix player overall to earn CAA weekly honors this year. This is also the fist time Elon has collected the league’s Player of the Week award in consecutive weeks following Carey Million’s accolade last Monday, March 23. Hannah Olson and Kiandra Mitchum have also been recognized as the CAA Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, this season.

The Phoenix continues its road trip on Wednesday, March 25, for a non-conference game at Virginia Tech. The opening pitch is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
