College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Takes Second at Wynlakes Intercollegiate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – LaGrange College had three golfers shoot even par or better to pull away from Guilford College and win the Wynlakes Intercollegiate Tuesday on the Championship Course of the Wynlakes Golf and Country Club. The Panthers and Quakers started the day tied for first in the 10-team field, but LaGrange shot four-under-par 284, compared to Guilford’s 290, in Tuesday’s second and final round.

The Panthers’ Cory Howard claimed medalist honors after carding the 36-hole tournament’s low score, a four-under 68. Teammate Logan Lanier had a 69 Tuesday and Osborn Theam shot 72 on the par-72, 6,894 layout. Lanier placed fourth and Theam sixth in the 60-man field.

Guilford’s Harrison Frye started the day with a two-shot lead after Monday’s three-under 69. He finished tied with teammate Ty Palmer for second place at 142 after shooting 73 Tuesday. Palmer had a two-under 70, but Guilford’s low round Tuesday came from senior Drew Thompson, who fired a season-best 69. Sophomore Tanner Gross shot 78 in the second round and shared 17th place at 150. Teammate Travis Tolbert shot 79 and finished in 58th place at 80-79-159.

Rhodes College rallied late to hold off California Lutheran University for third place. The Lynx shot 295-294-589 to hold off the Kingsmen by a stroke. Like Guilford, California Lutheran shot 290 Tuesday, 10 shots better than its opening-round score.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers are back in action April 6-7 at the Emory Spring Invitational in suburban Atlanta.
