FOREST, Va. – Guilford College’s Haley Andrews (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly) earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week Award Monday. Andrews recorded wins at both first singles and first doubles in the Quakers’ first two conference wins of the year last weekend. She downed Lynchburg College’s Melissa Drinkard, 6-2, 6-2, in Guilford’s 7-2 win over the Hornets Saturday. Andrews teamed with classmate Allison Hewitt for an 8-1 win over Drinkard and Catherine So in the first doubles match. The following day Andrews and Hewitt knocked off Virginia Wesleyan College’s top tandem of Mia Proctor and Jackie Lee, 8-3. Andrews stopped Proctor, 6-3, 6-4, at first singles. Guilford claimed a 6-3 victory over the Marlins.

Andrews shares the team lead with four singles wins this season and has a 4-4 first-singles record. Guilford is 4-0 this year when Andrews wins at first singles. She and Hewitt are 5-3 in doubles matches, which also equals Guilford’s best total.

Coach Dave McCain’s Quakers (4-4, 2-4 ODAC) begin a busy weekend Friday (4/3) at league-foe Hollins University in a match rescheduled from March 13. Guilford visits Emory & Henry College Saturday (4/4) for a 1:00 p.m. league match before returning home to face Agnes Scott College April 5 at 1:00 p.m. in a nonleague contest.
