Elon’s Johansen Selected CAA Track Athlete of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore Kimberly Johansen of the Elon women’s track and field team was honored as the Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Track Athlete of the Week as released by the league office on Tuesday afternoon, March 31.

This is the first CAA weekly award for the Chelmsford, England, native after she set a new outdoor school-record in the 800-meters with a time of 2:11.19 at the Raleigh Relays, finishing as the runner-up. That time sits atop the league’s performance list this year and is also 25th overall in the NCAA East Region.

Johansen also ran a new personal-best time of 4:27.32 in the 1,500-meters at Raleigh and was seventh overall in the race. That time is also best in the CAA and is 11th overall in the NCAA East Region.

Johansen becomes the second Phoenix athlete to receive the CAA Women’s Track Athlete of the Week accolade. Last week, Jen Esposito took home the award for her performance in the Phoenix’s opening outdoor meet of the year, the Coastal Carolina Invitational.

Elon will compete this weekend, April 3-4, at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational in Lynchburg, Va.
