College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Roanoke 10, Guilford 7

GREEENSBORO, N.C. – Darragh Evarts scored each of her game-high four points during a decisive 8-1 run that carried visiting Roanoke College to a 10-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win at Guilford College Wednesday.

The Quakers (5-5, 2-3 ODAC) grabbed an early 6-2 lead on the strength of two Marina Bailey goals, plus a goal and an assist by rookie Taylor Campellone. Roanoke’s Meredith Bigelow scored her second and third goals of the half in the final 16 minutes, which drew the visitors to within 6-4 at halftime.

Evarts and Nicole Zelnik tallied 22 seconds apart seven minutes into the second half, which tied the game at 6-6. Guilford’s Carter MacLeod answered 21 seconds after Zelnik’s tally, but the Maroons scored the game’s final four goals, two by Zelnik and two by Evarts. Evarts’ free-position goal with 13:39 remaining proved the game-winner.

Evarts and Bigelow finished with a game-high four points on three goals and an assist. Zelnik also scored three goals, all in the second half. Bigelow also collected a team-best four draw controls and picked up two ground balls. Lauren Curtin played all 60 minutes in goal and made nine saves.

Bailey and MacLeod’s two goals paced Guilford’s offense. Campellone also finished with two points. The Maroons held the Quakers’ leading scorer, Eleanora Keene, without a point, although Keene made her presence felt with nine ground balls and five caused turnovers, both game highs. Sammi Milbourn finished with nine saves in goal, seven in the first half.
