Elon Track and Field Phoenix Opens First Day at Liberty Collegiate Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A great start by freshman Emily Dixon in the heptathlon and a new personal-record by senior Jennifer Jarvis in the hammer throw highlighted the opening day for the Elon University women’s track and field team at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational on Friday, April 3, at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex.

Liberty Day One Results

Dixon claimed multiple events in the heptathlon after tallying 3,151 points in the first day. The Bath, England, native was first in the heptathlon’s 200-meters (25.68), 100-meter hurdles (14.39), high jump (5′ 4″ (1.64m)) and was the runner-up in the shot put (37′ 3.75″ (11.37m)). Fellow freshman Lydia Laws is currently third in the heptathlon with 2,754 points.

Jarvis finished third overall in the hammer throw after setting a new personal-record heave of 149’ 3” (45.50m). Teammate Briana O’Grady was sixth in the event with her toss of 147’ 6” (44.97m). Jarvis was also Elon’s top finisher in the javelin throw with a toss of 103’ 6” (31.56m).

Members of the Elon distance group also competed on the day at the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, N.C. Elyse Bierut was the runner-up in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:46.23 while Jenny Gallagher (sixth, 17:55.81), Shelby Cuddeback (seventh, 18:01.77) and Kaitlin Snapp (ninth, 18:27.67) joined her in the top-10 of the race.

The remaining members of the Phoenix will compete on the second day of the Liberty Collegiate Invitational tomorrow, April 4.
