Western Guilford Hornets Trip Up Host Graham 11-5 In Annual Easter Baseball Tourney

The Western Guilford Hornets erupted for 11 runs in defeating the Host school Graham High 11-5 in Easter Tournament action. The Hornets were trying to get over a heartbreaking and well played 2-1 loss to Chatham in the first round yesterday and really came out firing on all cylinders with timely hitting and stellar defense.

Josh Lemon and Troy Flippin combined for the win on the hill. Coach Chris Causeys team has really come together after a very slow early season start and have played inspired baseball the last 5 games.

Catcher Alec Sawyer went 3-4 with 2RBI and a run to lead the attack. Josh Wagoner and Lucas Olszewski each collected 2 hits apiece and Andrew King was 1-2 with a walk and 2 HBP, while Flippin ( 3 runs) and Matthew Nusdeo ( 2b, 2RBI ) each collected key hits in the big 8 run 5th inning. Sekiyah Koger was clutch with a 2 run single early in the game.

The defense for the Hornets was key as the left side of the infield ( Olszewski 3B and John Flowers SS ) were flawless and turned a couple key double plays to stop any Graham rally’s.

The Hornets now face Eastern Alamance on Saturday to try and finish the tourney at 2-1 and make a run starting next week in conference play.
