College Men’s Tennis Final – Guilford 8, Emory & Henry 1

EMORY, Va. – Guilford College’s men’s tennis team won for the eighth time in 10 outing Saturday with an 8-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory at Emory & Henry College Saturday.

The Quakers (7-4, 6-2 ODAC) claimed all three doubles points, including a narrow 8-6 third-doubles triumph by Levi Bruff and Mason Church over the Wasps’ Alex Polydoroff and Jonathan Romano. Guilford’s top-doubles tandem of Turner Votipka and Erik Meiler defeated Kamil Aliev and Luke Funkhouser, 8-4. Aaron Smedley and Trevor Cox downed Emory & Henry’s John Dalton and Dillan Dodson, 8-3.

Votipka earned his second win of the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win over John Dalton Ferguson at first singles. Cox also won twice, but needed three sets to topple Aliev, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Polydoroff earned the Wasps’ point with a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-7 comeback win over Guilford’s Meiler at third singles.

Coach Dave McCain’s Quakers return to action April 10 versus Greensboro College in a match rescheduled from Feb. 18. The match begins at 3:30 p.m. on Guilford’s McMichael Centennial Class Courts.
