Elon Track and Field Records Five Titles on Final Day at Liberty Collegiate Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Five event titles and a new discus school-record for sophomore Bre’anna Warren highlighted the final day for the Elon women’s track and field team on Saturday, April 4, at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex.

Warren threw a mark of 154’ 6” (47.10m) to finish third overall. She broke her previous school-record of 153’ 2” (46.68m) that she set last season. Freshman Bryanna Hames was fourth overall with a heave of 147’ 7” (44.99m). Warren also was third in the shot put with a throw of 44’ 2.75” (13.48m).

Freshman Emily Dixon continued her strong performance from yesterday’s opening in the heptathlon as the Bath, England, native took home the multi-events title with 4,818 points, the second-best performance in school history. Fellow rookie Lydia Laws was fourth overall with 4,294 points, the third-best performance on the program’s all-time list.

Carrie Abraham took first in the triple jump with a new personal-best leap of 39’ 11.15” (12.18m). Jayna Coyle was third in the event with a jump of 37’ 8.75” (11.50m), breaking into the program’s top-five marks all-time.

Junior Megan Kirschling took medalist honors in the high jump after clearing the bar at 5’ 5.75” (1.67m). Abraham was Elon’s top finisher in the long jump with her mark of 17’ 9” (5.41m) and was fifth overall.

Jen Esposito took her second 400-meter hurdles title of the season after clocking in a 1:00.63 in the race. In the 100-meter hurdles, Elon took the top three spots with Sydney Griffin (14.54), Dixon (14.84) and Laws (15.26) taking the honors.

Griffin was third overall in the 200-meters with her time of 25.39 while Jennifer Pash was also third in the 400-meters with a time of 58.12.

The Phoenix closed out the meet with its 4×400-meter relay team of Pash, Simone Jackson, Griffin and Esposito finishing as the runner-up with a time of 3:55.26. That time is now the fifth-best in school history.

Elon will travel to Durham, N.C., for the Duke Invitational next Saturday, April 11.
